Introduction 

Since July 3rd, 2024, Lagos has been grappling with severe flooding caused by unprecedented rainfall, leading to widespread disruption and damage. This incident underscores the urgent need for effective disaster management and planning. Understanding the Flooding Crisis

Recall that in 2015, Chidinma et al. identified the worst-hit areas in Lagos State during floods as Okokomaiko, GRA Ikeja, Ipaja-Ayobo, Shogunle, Apapa, Shomolu, Magodo, Ejigbo, and Surulere. The pattern of flood-prone areas underscores the need for advanced planning and disaster management strategies to prevent future occurrences. 

The Importance of Advanced Technologies 

Recall that the Annual Flood Outlook by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, released in April, indicated that Lagos, along with Adamawa, Imo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, and 25 other states, would experience flooding during the rainy season (Royal Ibeh, Leadership Newspaper 2024). This forecast highlights the importance of utilizing advanced technologies like GIS for effective flood management.
