Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited (SGNL) commenced the GIS week as part of the world’s GIS Day Celebration by participating in the GEOSON (Geoinformation Society of Nigeria) 2019 conference which was three days long.

The GEOSON conference began on Monday, 11th November 2019, with the theme “Smart Spatial Solutions for Sustainable Development in Africa” Hosted at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre and Suites, Kado in Abuja.  The theme of the conference was interestingly developed around the global focus on the use of Geospatial Technologies most especially the Earth Observation Satellite solutions for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which lies within the vision of Sambus Geospatial Limited.

Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited was present at the conference as one of the main sponsors of the event. With an exhibition booth,  some Geospatial Devices (Tools) were on Display as delegates at the event were also being educated on the new geospatial trends in ArcGIS mapping and analytics, advance data collection with Trimble GPS devices and ENVI Remote Sensing functionalities.

The first and second day of the conference was dedicated to enlightening all participants about the organization’s goal, it’s aims and objectives as well as introducing the body of Fellows of the Organization. Various distinguished guests were in attendance;

  • The Deputy Senate Leader – Senator (Prof.) R. A. Boroffice,
  • Acting Director General, National Agency for Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA),
  • Acting Surveyor General of the Federation,
  • Director General, Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA),
  • Joel Igbokwe, the lead paper presenter and
  • Director General NIHSA among others.

Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited featured a paper in the conference journal titled, “Development of a digital cadastre database for sustainable urban planning – A case study of Durumi region of Abuja, Nigeria”, on which a technical presentation was given.
