Edit related records.
We’ve introduced a new capability in Map Viewer that allows you to add related records while configuring attribute editing forms. When you access the form, you’ll notice related tables displayed within a green box. This feature enables you to open and edit these related tables seamlessly, showcasing the fields you’ve configured for each related table. Streamline your data management and editing process with this enhanced functionality at your fingertips.
Improved add layer experience.
Now, from the Layers pane, you have the convenience of seamlessly adding layers from a variety of sources, including your content, favourites, groups, organization, ArcGIS Living Atlas, and anywhere else within the ArcGIS Online ecosystem.
With the improved browsing experience, you’ll find a wealth of context and detailed information about layers, basemaps, and other content. This additional information empowers you to make more informed decisions about the layers you want to add to your map. It’s now easier than ever to explore, learn, and select the perfect layers to enrich your mapping projects.
This new implementation has been extended to other pages, including item Search and Gallery, providing a unified browse and search experience across the entire ArcGIS Online platform.

Enhanced pop-ups
Pop-ups play a crucial role in presenting data to your audience, and with this update, we’ve made significant design enhancements to provide an even better user experience.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Redesigned Feature Pagination and Menu Button: Navigating through pop-ups is now more intuitive and seamless with the newly redesigned feature pagination and menu button. Easily explore different features and access additional options with ease.
- Improved Media Pagination: Enjoy an enhanced media pagination experience within pop-ups. Now, you can interact with media content more effectively, making your map’s storytelling even more engaging.
- Enhanced Color Ramps and Matching Tooltips for Charts: Charts within pop-ups have received a design makeover. Enjoy visually appealing color ramps and matching tooltips, making it easier for your audience to interpret and understand the data presented.
- Improved Chart Interaction: Interacting with charts is now smoother and more responsive. Dive deeper into the data and gain valuable insights through seamless chart interactions.
Add focus to group layers
When working with group layers on a map, you can now display only one specific layer without having to hide each of the other layers. Exclusive visibility can be set in the Visibility section of the Properties pane for the group layer. In this mode, only the active layer you choose will be visible, so you can view individual layers while others remain hidden.
SVG symbol support
Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg) for symbols is now supported, in addition to .gif, .jpg, and .png files. With this update, you have the flexibility to upload and use SVG images to style your layers or create sketches, opening a whole new world of design possibilities.
SVG is a web-friendly format that stores images as vectors instead of pixels. This means that SVG symbols can be scaled up or down as needed, without any loss of resolution or blurriness. Whether you need to adjust the size of your symbols for different zoom levels or create precise and detailed graphics, SVG enables you to achieve stunning results with crystal-clear visuals.
ArcGIS Arcade expression editor
ArcGIS Arcade is an expression language that is supported across ArcGIS. It can be used to perform calculations, manipulate text, and evaluate logical statements. Arcade exists within a profile, or context, that defines the parameters that are available to the script as global inputs and the output expected from the script.
A new colour palette is introduced in the editor, uniquely highlighting keywords, identifiers, constants, functions, numbers, strings, and comments. The colours maintain a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 meeting WCAG 2.0 contrast requirements.
Multidimensional sliders
Multidimensional imagery layers offer a wealth of data slices that can be independently investigated, highlighted, or explored, both in isolation and in relation to one another. By configuring multidimensional settings, you gain the ability to visualize specific slices within these layers and define which slices are displayed on the map. These slices are determined by the variables and dimensions specified in the multidimensional settings.
For imagery layers with dimensions other than time, Map Viewer introduces the dimension slider, a powerful tool to animate multidimensional imagery layers. With the dimension slider, you can seamlessly navigate through different data slices, gaining valuable insights and observing changes over time or across other dimensions.
Common dimensions like elevation, depth, and pressure enable you to examine various aspects of the data. For instance, consider the HYCOM – Sea Water Temperature imagery layer from ArcGIS Living Atlas. This layer presents temperature data at multiple depths and across various time points, offering a comprehensive view of temperature variations in the ocean.
By leveraging multidimensional capabilities in Map Viewer, you can uncover hidden patterns, trends, and relationships within your data, leading to more informed decision-making and a deeper understanding of complex spatial phenomena.
Other updates and improvements
We are pleased to introduce some exciting new features to enhance your styling and visualization experience in Map Viewer:
- Streamlined Styling with Types (Unique Symbols): When styling your layer using Types (Unique Symbols), you can now perform batch operations effortlessly. This includes the ability to merge, move, and apply a color ramp to multiple style categories simultaneously. This time-saving enhancement allows you to efficiently manage and customize your symbols, ensuring a visually appealing and cohesive representation of your data.
- Improved Scatter Plot Chart: Creating scatter plot charts in Map Viewer gets even better! You now have the option to display your scatter plot as a bubble plot with proportionally sized points. This addition provides an intuitive way to visualize data with varying magnitudes, giving you deeper insights into spatial patterns and correlations.
- Support for Streaming Feature Layers: Map Viewer now extends its support to adding and configuring streaming feature layers. This includes ArcGIS Velocity feeds and GeoEvent Server layers. Like any other feature layer, you can style and visualize these streaming layers, enabling real-time data analysis and geospatial monitoring.
With these new features at your disposal, your mapping and visualization capabilities are expanded, allowing for more flexibility and creativity in conveying information effectively. Embrace the power of these enhancements and unlock the full potential of Map Viewer in your geospatial endeavors.
